En las próximas semanas, en una pequeña ciudad del corazón de Chile, se pondrá la primera piedra de la capilla «Nuestra señora de los Ángeles», única obra de Gaudí fuera de España.


Trece veranos después de que, en 1909, la obra de Antoni Gaudí le cortara la respiración,  el padre Angélico Aranda, un franciscano chileno, decidió pedir un favor al genio de la arquitectura prometiendole sus «correspondientes oraciones». Tras casi un siglo de espera, su sueño es hoy una realidad.


  


Y es que, en 2015, en una pequeña ciudad del corazón de Chile se va a poner la primera piedra de la capilla «Nuestra señora de los Ángeles». Se levantará en función de un boceto de Gaudí que le regaló al religioso chileno en 1922 y se convertirá en la única obra del artista español fuera de su país.


«La historia de esta capilla es uno de los relatos más fascinantes que he conocido nunca», explicó a Efe el arquitecto chileno Christian Matzner, uno de los artífices del proyecto, encargado de hacer realidad el anhelo del franciscano chileno que ahora cuenta con el beneplácito y la financiación del Gobierno de Chile.

El proyecto, que además de la capilla contará con un espacio cultural subterráneo y una gran plaza, se emplazará en el Parque Cataluña, un terreno de 14 hectáreas en la ciudad de Rancagua, a 90 kilómetros al sur de la capital chilena (Santiago de Chile)


  


De ahí que, en 2017, este lugar se convertirá en la única localidad fuera de España en la que se alzará la obra de uno de los arquitectos más relevantes de todos los tiempos.

Poco o casi nada de la vida del fraile se sabe con certeza, pero según indicios fue en 1909 cuando el chileno Angélico Aranda, procedente de Roma donde estudió pintura, puso el pie por primera vez en una Barcelona revolucionada, en el que las laberínticas callejuelas convivían con los cambios urbanísticos inspirados en la grandeza de París.


A las afueras de esa ciudad ferviente, el fraile enamorado de la arquitectura y especializado en pintura sacra, descubrió el inconmensurable talento de Antoni Gaudí -que aún no gozaba de la reputación actual- al contemplar por primera vez lo que calificó de «gran maravilla».

La obra que cautivó al entonces joven fraile de paso por la capital catalana era la Sagrada Familia, actualmente considerada la obra más emblemática del arquitecto, que en aquel entonces solo estaba constituida por unas cuantas torres inacabadas.


  


Prueba de la fascinación que le suscitó el gran templo barcelonés es que en su dietario, el fraile, se cuidó de poner a salvo de los estragos de la memoria descripciones de la emblemática obra junto a un autógrafo del artista, testimonio de su encuentro con el universal arquitecto en 1909 en la ciudad condal.

«Admiré un templo, cuya construcción lleva cerca de treinta años, el cual será una de las maravillas de la arquitectura moderna», apuntaba el culto franciscano en una carta escrita para un superior de su misma orden.

Así qué Chile será la nueva poseedora de una de las grandes obras diseñadas por el gran maestro Gaudí, en cuanto tengamos los primeros avances de construcción, se los iremos trayendo desde Chile.
